Nancy’s family has had a camp on Panther Pond since the 1920’s. She grew up in Connecticut, graduated from the University of Chicago, was a director of a small library and the chair of a high school history department. She retired last year and she volunteers to head the education, publicity, and fundraising committees because she cares deeply about the quality of water in the connected Raymond waterways.
My uncle bought our camp on Panther Pond in 1935. I have been spending time here every year of my life. In 2007 I realized my childhood dream of moving here year-round. I have been involved with the Panther Pond Association for 20 years. I’ve had the opportunity to pull milfoil from the Jordan River, be a part of the erosion control crew for owners on the lake and be a PPIPPER (Panther Pond Invasive Plant Patroller) for 15 years. I served as PPA treasurer for 12 years and have been Raymond Waterways treasurer for the last 8 years. I have been involved in the Raymond Village Library plant sale for many years which has resulted in lots of plants in my yard which is great for erosion control.
Our newest volunteer board member is Angelo Conti, who grew up in New Jersey, as a high schooler, he worked for the local watershed protection association. He began fly fishing then, eventually being named New Jersey’s 2010 and 2011 Fly Fisherman of the Year. He graduated from Maine’s Unity College with a degree in Fisheries Management, a field in which he has worked in Maine ever since graduating from college. He treasures our lakes and rivers and is committed to protecting them with Raymond Waterways. Welcome, Angelo!
